Johann III. from Diepholz
Johann III. von Diepholz (* in the 14th century; † March 22, 1437 in Osnabrück ) was Bishop of Osnabrück from 1424 to 1437 . He was a son of Count Konrad von Diepholz .
For his reign, feuds and disputes with neighboring principalities in particular have been handed down, especially with the county of Hoya , the city of Herford , the bishopric of Minden , but also in the East Frisian region.
In his native Osnabrück, Johann also had to fight hostilities. His election by the cathedral chapter was controversial. This completed the chapter without knowledge of the secular institutions, which caused the council and citizens of the city of Osnabrück to besiege the Osnabrück cathedral courtyard. In this way, their participation in future episcopal elections should be enforced, which ultimately succeeded. In addition, disputes in the cathedral chapter itself overshadowed his reign.
