Johann Jacob Wetken (born August 11, 1691 in Hamburg ; † June 2, 1741 ibid) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman.

Life

Johann Jacob Wetken came from the Hamburg merchant family Wetken . He was a son of Paul Wetken (1656–1701) from his second marriage to Margaretha, geb. Schlichting. The wealthy merchant and founder Hermann Wetken († 1712) was his great-uncle, Hermann Samuel Reimarus was his cousin.

He attended the learned school of the Johanneum and studied Protestant theology , from Easter 1712 at the University of Rostock . At Easter 1717 he became a candidate for the Hamburg Ministry of Spirituality . He received his first pastor's position on March 6, 1721, when he was appointed pastor at the Heiliggeistkirche and preacher at the inn , a municipal welfare institution.

Wetken was married to Anna Dina, born on August 31, 1723. Willers († 1757). The couple had eight children.
