Johann Jacob d'Avis

Johann Jacob d'Avis (also: Jakob ) (born March 18, 1799 in Oberwesel ; † January 2, 1857 in Mainz ) was a German merchant and member of parliament.

Johann Jacob d'Avis was the son of George d'Avis (1749–1801) and Elisabeth born Gottlob (* 1778). D'Avis, who was a Catholic denomination, married Katharina Josepha born Heilmann (1790–1865) in Mainz on December 30, 1823, the daughter of Matthäus Heilmann from Hofheim.

Johann Jacob d'Avis had been an apprentice in the grocery store JA Glückert since 1818 and took over the commissioning and forwarding business from H. Ackermann Sohn in 1824. He was a sponsor and first president of the Mainz tow steam association and vice president of the Düsseldorfer Dampfschiffahrtsgesellschaft. From 1831 he was a member and from 1849 to 1853 President of the Mainz Chamber of Commerce .

After the March Revolution , the electoral law was changed and the members of the First Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse were now elected. Johann Jacob d'Avis was elected to the first chamber in the 7th district of Rheinhessen (Mainz, Ober-Olm) and resigned in 1854.
