German Olympic qualification 1964 / Summer Games / Swimming
This article describes the results of the elimination competitions in swimming for the formation of the all-German team at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo .
The elimination in swimming was held from August 21st to 23rd in the Elbe swimming hall in Magdeburg and from August 28th to 30th in Dortmund's Südbad, based on the US trials.

Men
100 m crawl and 4 × 100 m crawl
Location: Dortmund
The participants were divided into two runs. The three fastest people qualified for the individual race, which was also joined by the fourth fastest for the relay.

The fastest swimmer in the elimination and in Tokyo, Hans-Joachim Klein, was selected for the individual distance 100 m crawl swum at the Olympics .
There were elimination swimming for the three other styles, which were held for the 100 m back and 100 m chest in Dortmund and for the 100 m butterfly in Magdeburg.
Ernst-Joachim Küppers (f) qualified for the 100 m back , who swam the world record with 1: 00.8 min. Egon Henninger , who swam the German record with 1: 07.5 min, qualified for the 100 m breaststroke . Horst-Günter Gregor (o) qualified for the 100 m butterfly , who swam the German record in 59.6 seconds.
The relay won silver in Tokyo.

The fastest swimmers in the elimination and in Tokyo were selected for the three individual distances swum at the Olympics: 100 m back, 100 m butterfly and 100 m crawl. That was East German Ingrid Schmidt for backstroke swimming, West German Heike Hustede for butterfly swimming and East German Martina Grunert for freestyle swimming .
There was an elimination in Dortmund for the 100 m chest course, which was won by the East German Bärbel Grimmer in 1: 19.4.
The relay was disqualified in the final in Tokyo.
