Johann Jakob Beck (painter, 1786)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Jakob Beck (born October 13, 1786 in Schaffhausen ; † August 15, 1868 there ) was a painter and drawing teacher .

Live and act

Johann Jakob Beck was the son of the pastry baker Alexander Beck zum kleine Weinberg , Unterstadt 40, and Maria Ursula, whose father was also a painter (and glazier). At first Beck worked as a restorer of oil paintings, later he was a drawing teacher. He lived on the Schaffhauser Hintergasse in the house on the rear Dornhan .

He is considered to be an essential "savior" of the Munot , which was in a precarious state of disintegration, and founded the Munot Association, which he chaired. Some works have been preserved from his work, in particular he made drawings of buildings threatened by demolition and decay as well as illustrations for the annual New Year's papers . As early as 1839, the Munot was largely preserved.

Beck retired in 1851. According to Hans Wilhelm Harder (1810–1872), his pupil, his years of age were overshadowed by letting go. After a short illness, he died on August 15, 1868. The daily newspaper of August 18 published an obituary by his pupil and later eager successor, the aforementioned Hans Wilhelm Harder. The Munotverein founded by Beck in 1839 had a bust of Beck by C. Bührer, Paris, set up on the Munotzinne. A full-length statuette by Beck in clay, bronze and plaster casts has been preserved by Johann Jakob Oechslin .
