Johann Jakob Christinger (born November 22, 1836 in Langenhart (Thurgau) , † August 22, 1910 in Hüttlingen ) was a Swiss Evangelical Reformed pastor and writer. He was also committed to social issues and women's education.

Life

Johann Jakob Christinger was born on November 23, 1836, the eldest son of a farming family. After the early death of his father, Christinger was allowed to enter the first class of the Thurgau teachers' seminar in 1853 as a scholarship holder through the mediation of his religion teacher Thomas Bornhauser . After completing his primary school teacher training, Christinger initially worked as a private tutor at Hard Castle near Ermatingen . From 1857–1861 he studied theology at the University of Zurich . After his first years as a pastor in Matzingen (1862–1865), Johann Jakob Christinger was elected to teach German, religion and history at the Frauenfeld Cantonal School , of which he was rector from 1868 to 1870. His application as a government councilor in the spring of 1869 was unsuccessful. In 1870 Christinger returned to the parish office, first in Arbon and from 1875 in Hüttlingen, where he worked until his death on August 22, 1910.

Christinger also worked as a writer. He not only wrote a biography of his teacher and sponsor Thomas Bornhauser, but also a festival for the Thurgau centenary celebration , which was performed in Weinfelden in 1898 . In addition, he served the canton of Thurgau in various church and public offices, for example after 1898 as dean of the Frauenfeld parish chapter and in two legislative periods, from 1871 to 1880 and from 1901 to 1907 as president of the Thurgau non-profit society .
