Johann Joachim Ewald
Johann Joachim Ewald (* 1727 in Spandau ; † lost after 1762) was a German poet .
Life
He began as the court master of a young nobleman who studied in Frankfurt (Oder) , then lived for a time in Potsdam with Ewald Christian von Kleist , in 1757 he became court master of the Hereditary Prince of Hesse-Darmstadt and court advisor in Darmstadt.
He later allegedly went to Rome and, according to some sources, died there as a Carthusian monk . According to other sources, he is said to have disappeared in Italy, Tunis or Algiers after 1762. Part of the family had emigrated to Pennsylvania . It is not known whether his traces are more likely to be found there. A path in Berlin-Spandau is named after him.
Works
In his epigrams there is a surprising delicacy of expression, which is remarkable for this early period. His songs and epistles appeared anonymously in Berlin in 1757 (3rd edition by KH Jördens, das. 1791).
