Life and accomplishments

Johann Joachim Steinbrück was born in Stettin on August 18, 1760 . His father Joachim Bernhard Steinbrück (1725–1789) was pastor there at the St. Peter-Pauls Church . Johann Joachim Steinbrück studied theology like his father and in 1789 became his father's clerk as a deacon at St. Peter-Pauls-Kirche. He stayed at this church and became first preacher there in 1827. In 1833 he was retired. He died on January 24, 1841.

Like his father, Johann Joachim Steinbrück also researched the history of Pomerania and continued its extensive collection of material. In addition to a biography of his father, he published three works on the history of Pomerania. Later (1893) the historian Gottfried von Bülow judged the best-known work History of the Monasteries in Pomerania to be unfavorable. The book is not very useful, “because neither the author was up to such a work, nor was the material sufficiently collected at the time. Many errors in the dates make it difficult to use. "
