Johann Karl Christoph Ferber (born July 4, 1739 in Gonna ; † November 3, 1786 in Helmstedt ) was a German university professor and philosopher.

Life

Johann Karl Christoph Ferber studied philosophy and theology at the University of Jena and the University of Leipzig . During his academic career he dealt with the evidence for atheism and published a treatise written in Latin that was printed in Jena in 1757. When he got his master's degree , he accepted a call to the University of Helmstedt , where he became a full professor of logic and metaphysics in 1766, and in 1781 he was appointed professor of morality; at the same time he was first vice rector and later rector of the Latin school in Helmstedt. In the course of time he was appointed second inspector of the ducal Konviktes and supervisor of the Herzogliche Deutsche Gesellschaft zu Helmstedt, whose members practiced the rhetorical and stylistic use of their mother tongue; however, it was abolished together with the university in 1810.

He was married to Sophie Marie Johanna, b. Petzel. They had a son together:

  • Johann August Philipp Ferber (born February 5, 1773 - † January 7, 1853 in Helmstedt), Mayor of Helmstedt from 1808 to 1844.
