Life

Johann Kayser was a great-grandson of the Imperial captain and kurtrierischen Vogts Niclas Keisjer from Cochem. From 1611 to 1653, Kayser served the city of Cochem and its inhabitants for 42 years, and was particularly concerned about protecting them during the Thirty Years' War . During his long years of service he represented the city of Cochem at numerous state parliaments. At two state parliaments convened by Trier Elector Karl Kaspar von der Leyen on June 25, 1652 and June 8, 1654, he signed the state parliaments as Mayor Johann Kayser von Cochem. Furthermore, he sealed a contract between the Trier and the Cologne Elector , which concerned the rights of the Hambuch rule . Both the village and the court there were still half owned by the Kurtrier and the other half by the Cologne Archbishopric and Count von der Leyen .
