Johann "Hans" Kogler (born May 12, 1968 in Oberzeiring ) is a former Austrian soccer player and current soccer coach .
Club career
Kogler moved to the 1989/90 season from Wolfsberger AC, relegated to the second division, to the traditional Austrian club Grazer AK in the Bundesliga. He established himself in the team right away and played 19 games in which he scored two goals. When the GAK was relegated at the end of the season, Kogler remained loyal to the club despite several offers and completed a season in what was then the second division.
After the GAK failed to get up again immediately, he switched to the Upper Austrian Bundesliga club Vorwärts Steyr in the summer of 1991 . Despite good performances for Steyr, the final breakthrough was denied for the time being.
For the 1993/94 season there was a transfer on loan to Admira Wacker . The then coach of Admira, Dietmar Constantini , was urgently looking for a replacement for Peter Artner , who had migrated to Salzburg , who was the be-all and end-all of the Admira game in the preseason and was able to score ten goals. Kogler immediately fulfilled the expectations placed on him and was subsequently signed by Admira Wacker. In the 1994/95 season he became a national player. After the above-average strong season, Constantini let himself be carried away to the statement that Kogler was a "technically excellent universal player with almost inexhaustible potential".
After the sportily disappointing ninth place in the table in the 1995/96 season, Kogler moved to the then highly ambitious LASK Linz back in Upper Austria. In Linz, Kogler repeatedly suffered minor injuries, but fought his way back into the regular squad every time. He was once seventh and twice fifth in the Bundesliga. When LASK had financial problems after the 1998/99 season in the wake of the “Rieger Affair”, he dared to take the step abroad.
This was followed by half a year in the German second division at SpVgg Greuther Fürth . After only six season games for Fürth, he seriously injured his knee in the game against Fortuna Düsseldorf . Since the end of his career could not be ruled out, his contract was then terminated by mutual agreement.
Contrary to expectations, Kogler fought his way back and signed a contract with SW Bregenz in the winter of 1999 . In the following years he was a regular at Bregenz and later in Lustenau, but could no longer build on his old achievements. From 2003 he ended his career in the Austrian Regionalliga West with Hohenems as a player and subsequently with Viktoria Bregenz as a player-coach.
Johann Kogler was a coach at FC Lustenau until October 3, 2011 .
National team
Kogler made his debut on September 7, 1994 in a 4-0 away win in Eschen against Liechtenstein for the Austrian national team . Alongside Toni Polster, Kogler was the only one who took part in all six European Championship qualifying games of the 1994/95 season.
After moving to LASK, he was no longer called up for the national team. In total, he completed 7 international matches, in which, however, he failed to score.
