Johann Konrad Enz

Johann Konrad Enz (born September 20, 1752 in Stein , † July 4, 1806 in St. Gallen ; legal resident in Herisau , from 1798 in St. Gallen) was a Swiss merchant and textile entrepreneur from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Johann Konrad Enz was a son of Adam Enz, councilor and owner of the paper mill in Kubel (municipality of Stein ), and Anna Zuberbühler. In 1777 he married Anna Tanner, daughter of Peter Tanner, bleacher . Johann Konrad Enz was a textile merchant and publisher with embroiderers in Swabia and Vorarlberg . In 1790 he had a mechanic from Rehetobel design spinning machines in Ausserrhoden for the first time . He put eight of them into operation in a new building in Herisau. As a result of his business conduct, including cooperation with foreign partners and price gouging in the yarn trade , he came into conflict with the government and his competitors. After the falling out with the Herisau trading house Wetter, he moved to St. Gallen in 1798. From 1798 he was a member of the Helvetian Grand Council.
