Johann Laurenz Zuberbühler (born January 14, 1733 in Speicher ; † May 14, 1790 in Trogen ; resident in Speicher, from 1754 in Trogen) was a Swiss textile entrepreneur, councilor, land major and regional witness from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Johann Laurenz Zuberbühler was a son of Johannes Zuberbühler, a doctor, and Catharina Schläpfer. He was the brother of Johann Jakob Zuberbühler and cousin of Johann Jakob Zuberbühler . In 1755 he married Anna Zellweger, a daughter of textile merchant Conrad and Elsbeth Zellweger-Sulser at Landsgemeindeplatz 4 in Trogen. He was a merchant in Lyon and Italy . Because of the unauthorized admission to the textile trading house of the Zellweger brothers by the father-in-law in 1755, the company was split up between the quarreling brothers Conrad and Johannes Zellweger and the company C. Zellweger & Zuberbühler & Compagnie was re-established. Zuberbühler built up sales in France and Italy and, after his father-in-law's resignation in 1766, ran the textile export company Zuberbühler & Compagnie. In 1761 he was councilor in Trogen, 1764 examinator, 1766 district captain and from 1780 to 1786 country major and state witness. The Zuberbühlers lived in today's Krone restaurant on Landsgemeindeplatz 3. The baroque painting of the main facade with the coat of arms of the Zuberbühlers and Zellwegers and the rococo salon on the second floor, which was restored in 2007–2009 thanks to Soroptimist St.Gallen / Appenzell, was their initiative. Anna and Johann Laurenz Zuberbühler donated valuable silver vessels in 1782 for the Protestant Reformed Church in Trogen, which was rebuilt between 1779 and 1782 .
