Johannes Zellweger-Sulser

John Zellweger Sulser (* 14. August 1695 in Trogen , † 11. February 1774 ibid ; heimatberechtigt in Trogen) was a Swiss businessman , a textile manufacturer, councilor, governor and bailiff of the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Johannes Zellweger-Sulser was a son of Conrad Zellweger and a brother of Laurenz Zellweger . In 1719 he married Ursula Sulser, daughter of Jakob Sulser , freight forwarder and land manager. He attended schools in Lyon and completed commercial training in his father's trading house. In 1722 he joined his father's company. Zellweger led this from 1726 with his brother Conrad Zellweger . The Zellweger brothers, with the help of the Sulser brothers by marriage, set up branches in Barcelona and Lyon in Azmoos . From 1741 to 1744 he was councilor in Trogen. From 1744 to 1745 he served as governor of Ausserrhoder and from 1745 to 1747 as governor. In 1755 Zellweger separated from his brother. He took the sons Jakob Zellweger and Johannes Zellweger and in 1757 his son-in-law Sebastian Honnerlag into the company Gebrüder Zellweger & Compagnie. This was now also in the cotton business and from the 1760s in the trade in embroidery . In 1768 he retired into private life.
