Johann Lorth (born November 10, 1891 in Beurig , † November 29, 1966 in Saarburg ) was a German entrepreneur and politician ( CDU ).

Life

Lorth was born the son of a bricklayer and contractor. After attending elementary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer and then worked in his father's company, which he took over in 1919 after participating in the First World War . During the time of the Weimar Republic he was active as an opponent of Rhenish separatism in the passive resistance . Before 1933 he was a member of Beurig's municipal council.

After the Second World War, Lorth was one of the founders of the CDU in the Saarburg district and was chairman of the district association until 1959. He was a member of the Saarburg city council and a member of the district council and the district committee in the Saarburg district. From 1946 to 1949 he served as honorary mayor and from 1949 to 1956 as first alderman of the city of Saarburg.

The district of Saarburg was part of the Saarland from July 1946 to June 1947 and was therefore not included in the election to the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament in May 1947 . After 61 communities were reorganized into Rhineland-Palatinate in the Saarburg and Trier districts, the Saarburg district became part of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate. As a result, the number of seats in the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament was increased to 101 and a by-election was carried out in the Saarburg district on September 21, 1947. In the by-election, Lorth won the seat and moved into parliament, of which he was a member until 1951. In the state parliament he was a member of the border region committee and the budget and finance committee.

Awards

On April 21, 1918, Lorth was awarded the Prussian Military Order of the Golden Military Merit Cross (serial number: 179).

In 1959 Johann Lorth received the Freiherr vom Stein plaque from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
