Johann Ludwig (* 1980 in Cologne ) is a German cellist and composer .

Life

After studying with professors Alwin Bauer, Maria Kliegel and Claus Kanngiesser, Ludwig received chamber music lessons with the Alban Berg Quartet and Alexander Lonquich. He also attended master classes with Mstislaw Leopoldowitsch Rostropowitsch , Miklos Perenyi and Wolfgang Böttcher. He received further impulses from Siegfried Palm , Mirko Dorner and David Geringas .

He gained experience with conductors such as Sir Colin Davis , Christoph Eschenbach and Mario Venzago and at concerts with Thomas Brandis , Saschko Gawriloff , Siegfried Palm , Stewart Eaton , Hartmut Rohde and Wolfgang Güttler . Prizes at international competitions led Ludwig to solo appearances with orchestras such as the Czech National Orchestra, the " WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne ", the " Philharmonia Hungarica ", the state orchestras in Frankfurt / Oder, Kiel, Halle, and the "Nikolaus Esterházy Sinfonia Budapest".

He has been invited to play at the biggest music festivals in Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Brazil, Japan, Korea and Germany.

As an orchestral musician, Johann Ludwig worked from 2006 to 2008 as solo cellist of the Regensburg Philharmonic Orchestra. 2008–2015 he was principal cellist of the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe. Since 2015 he has been concert master of the violoncellos of the Hessian State Orchestra Wiesbaden. In addition, Johann Ludwig has been a member since 2018 and solo cellist of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra since 2019.

In addition to radio and television productions, Ludwig has also published CDs with works by Mirko Dorner , Haydn and others such as Martinů , Popper and Schulhoff .
