Hartmut Rohde

Hartmut Rohde (born April 28, 1966 in Hildesheim ) is a German violist and professor for viola at the University of the Arts in Berlin.

Hartmut Rohde's musical training began with his first violin lessons in Celle . In 1978 he switched to the viola. From 1985 to 1993 he studied with Hatto Beyerle , the former violist of the Alban Berg Quartet , at the Hanover University of Music and Theater . In 1990 he won the prize of the German Music Competition , in 1991 he was a prize winner at the International Naumburg Competition New York . From 1998 to 2012 Rohde was a founding member of the Kandinsky String Trio . Since 2000 he has been a member of the Mozart Piano Quartet with worldwide appearances in New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Sydney, São Paulo, Vienna and others. a. In 1993 he was appointed professor at the Berlin University of the Arts. Since 2001 he has also taught regularly at the Royal Academy of Music in London , of which he became an Honorary Member in 2008. Hartmut Rohde gives master classes at home and abroad, is chamber music partner of internationally renowned soloists and ensembles such as David Geringas , Jörg Widmann , Jens Peter Maintz , Pascal Devoyon , Lauma Skride , Boris Pergamenschikow , Michael Sanderling , Janine Jansen , Christian Tetzlaff and the Leipzig String Quartet , the Vogler Quartet and the Auryn Quartet . He is a member of the Berlin Soloist Octet and the Geringas Baryton Trio.

As a soloist and chamber musician, he gives guest performances at well-known festivals and performs with well-known orchestras such as the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Beethovenhalle Orchestra in Bonn , the Radiophilharmonie Hannover, the Munich Chamber Orchestra , the Philharmonic Lithuania and the National Orchestra Beijing. Hartmut Rohde has released numerous CDs , among others at EMI , Decca , Sony BMG, Naxos and on the German label Musikproduktion Dabringhaus & Grimm . His students hold positions with the Berlin Philharmonic , Munich Philharmonic , Semperoper Dresden as well as Ensemble intercontemporain or Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Rome and are prizewinners of international competitions. His former students include Julia Rebekka Adler , Sascha Frömbling, Yung-Hsin Chang, Martin von der Nahmer and Joaquin Riquelme. Since 2013 he has worked as a conductor of various chamber orchestras, a. a. the Wroclaw Chamber Orchestra Leopoldinum.
