Johann Martin Mack

Johann Martin Mack (born April 19, 1715 in Laichingen ; † June 9, 1784 in Friedensthal , Saint Croix ) was a Protestant missionary and bishop of the Moravian Brethren .

Mack joined the Brethren at the age of 19. A year later, the founder and spiritual leader of the church, Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf , sent him to North America for missionary work. After a failed first attempt to settle with the community in Georgia , he helped establish the first Moravian Church in Bethlehem in the Pennsylvania colony . In 1762 he was sent to the Virgin Islands , where he stayed until the end of his life. In 1770 he was appointed Bishop of the Brethren.
