Johann Max Hinterwaldner

Johann Max Hinterwaldner (born September 14, 1844 in Schwaz ; † May 29, 1912 in Graz ) was an Austrian educator .

Life

Johann Max Hinterwaldner studied natural history , physics and mathematics at the University of Innsbruck . In 1863 he became a member of the Corps Rhaetia . In 1866 he took part in the Third Italian War of Independence in a voluntary Austrian student company . In 1867 he passed the teaching examination for middle schools and in 1870 for middle schools.

First in 1867 supplent at the Innsbruck grammar school, from 1868 to 1870 he was a professor at the Rakovac military high school. From 1870 to 1875 he was the main teacher at the Innsbruck Teacher Training Institute and from 1875 to 1904 he was a high school professor in Vienna. From 1872 he was a member of the examination committee for elementary and community schools. In 1882 he became district school inspector for the Hernals district and in 1887 for Vienna's Leopoldstadt . In 1904 he retired.

Hinterwaldner founded Austria-Hungary's first external schools for blind, deaf-mute and mentally handicapped children in Vienna . From 1893 to 1912 he was editor of the magazine for the Austrian elementary school system . He published on pedagogical and didactic topics and school organizational issues. Scientifically, he devoted himself to botany and zoology .
