Johann Michael Bretschneider
Johann Michael Bretschneider (born September 15, 1680 in Schreckenstein near Aussig , † October 27, 1729 in Vienna ) (also: Pretschneider ) was a German baroque painter .
Life
His parents were Wentzel and Ludmilla Bretschneider.
His teacher is not known, but it is believed that he was apprenticed to Johann Byss (1660–1738) in Prague. In 1697 he was summoned to the town hall in Old Town Prague with some other free painters ( troublemakers ), including Peter Johann Brandl . On July 18, 1700 he was accepted into the Old Town Painters' Guild and received citizenship on September 20. He stayed in Prague until 1703. In the years 1717 to 1721 he can be traced back to Vienna, where he painted genre and flower pictures. After that he probably came to Bavaria, where pictures of him can still be found in the Pinakothek today.
