Johann Nauwach

Johann Nauwach , also Giovanni Nauwach (* around 1595 in Brandenburg , † 1630 in Dresden ) was a German baroque composer .

Live and act

From 1607 to 1612 he was Kapellknabe under Hans Leo Haßler in Dresden and then, at the request of Johann Georg I, received musical training in Florence and Turin with the lutenist Lorenzo Allegri before he returned to Dresden in 1618.

Nauwach was a student of Heinrich Schütz and became a lutenist in 1623 under his direction. In the same year he was appointed electoral chamber musician . Until 1629 he was a member of the Dresden court orchestra and composed (after converting to Catholicism ) as one of the first Germans in the style of the Florentine opera monodie Giulio Caccini .
