Johann Nepomuk Ott

Johann Nepomuk Ott (born January 14, 1804 in Munich ; † February 28, 1870 there ) was a German landscape painter .

Life

He was the son of a secret secretary and royal councilor. Talent showed up at an early age and in 1818 he went to the art academy in Munich . There he encountered antiquity and was enthusiastic about drawing figures. He then learned landscape painting under Wilhelm von Kobell , which he then stayed with. He made numerous trips to the Alps for his nature studies . He received a royal travel grant, which enabled him to study in Italy in 1833 and 1834 . He migrated via Nice , Genoa , Livorno and Florence to Rome , then on to Naples and Sicily . During the trip he collected a lot of material for seascapes.
