In 1793 he acquired the citizenship of the city of Erfurt . Two years later, the new pocket calendar for businessmen and travelers in the Erfurt area listed him as one of the three Erfurt art gardeners in 1795 . From 1797, Haage bought fields in Erfurt's Krmpferfeld, the house and property "Zum Roten Krebs" in Schmidtstedter Gasse, today's Schmidtstedter Strasse 15, as well as the barn and garden Neuerbe 3–7 and Neuerbe 33. His range included ornamental and vegetable plants. Haage devoted himself to both plant breeding and seed cultivation .

Haage was married twice and had a total of ten children. In his first marriage he was married to Catharina Barbara Nehrlich (1775-1808), daughter of the postpack master Carl Friedemann Nehrlich and aunt of the landscape painter Friedrich Nerly . The children of the marriage were Carl Friedemann (1795–1844), Friedrich Adolph (1796–1866), Johann August Paul (1798–1865), Regina Magdalena (1801–1881), Johann Georg (1803-?), Maria Ampolonia Margaretha (1805–1812) and Franz Anton (1808–?). After the death of his first wife, he married Johanna Christina Sondermann, a daughter of the gardener Johann Michael Sondermann. With her he had the children Johann Michael (1809–1842), Lorenz August (1811–1811) and Ernst Maximilian Ludwig (1812–1853).
