Johann Paul Auer
Johann Paul Auer (born September 20, 1636 in Nuremberg , † October 16, 1687 ibid) was a German painter.
life and work
Johann Paul Auer studied with Georg Christoph Eimmart in Regensburg between 1654 and 1658 . In 1660 he went to Venice , where he continued his training with Pietro Liberi . After a four-year stay in Rome , he moved on to Paris via Turin and Lyon and returned to Nuremberg in 1670.
Auer's work includes historical , landscape and genre scenes ; He was known and celebrated mainly for his portraits of numerous famous people. Several of these portraits were engraved after him. He died in Nuremberg in 1687.
