Johann Paul Schorn was the son of the court lute and violin maker Johann Schorn and his first wife. As a well-known violin maker, he belonged to the Stainer School .

In 1701 Schorn taught at the Kapellhaus, from 1704 he worked as a violinist at the Salzburg court orchestra, and in 1723 he was appointed chamber porter.

In 1724, the music collection Duodenarium harmoniae selectae delicium vario instrumentorum genere ordinatum ( twelve selected pieces of music compiled to complement instruments of various genres ) was published in Augsburg . The collection consists of twelve five- to nine-movement parts (= suites ) for string instruments or string and wind instruments in the French style. Schorn differentiates between pleno and da camera cast. The former relates to the suites in which winds are added, the latter to those with a string-only instrumentation.

His successor as court lute and violin maker was Andreas Ferdinand Mayr .
