Johann Schorn , also Johannes Schorn , (* around 1658 in Fridolfing ; † July 27, 1718 in Salzburg ) was a German lute and violin maker in Salzburg.

Life

Johann Schorn first worked as a violin maker for Archbishop Max Gandolf von Kuenburg (1668–1687), probably from Innsbruck . In 1713, on the recommendation of the then court orchestra leader Matthias Sigismund Biechteler (around 1668–1743) , he was hired as "Hoff lute and violin maker" at the Salzburg court. It is said that he further developed the viola d'amore together with the Salzburg court music director Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber . A mandora (Gallichon) from Schorn has also been preserved.

On August 11, 1681 he married Christina Bleisin, their two sons Johann Paul Schorn and Johann Joseph Schorn worked with their father in the workshop, but worked more as musicians. Their high-quality instruments are still close to those of the two Tyrolean violin makers Jakob Stainer and Matthias Alban . Johann Joseph Schorn was a cellist in the Salzburg court music from 1714 at the latest .
