Johann Peter Apollonius Weltrich
Johann Peter Apollonius Weltrich (born April 30, 1781 in Kulmbach ; † August 23, 1850 there ) was a German naturalist.
Life
Weltrich was the royal rent agent in Kulmbach. He discovered the plant fossilization Weltrichia mirabilis named after him in Veitlahm's so-called plant warehouse , an Upper Franconian Rhaetian formation . The fossil is a male sporophyll circle from a Bennettitacee . A type copy is kept at the Swedish University of Uppsala. This specimen can be assigned to the tree ferns and is also called the miracle flower.
Weltrich initiated and financially supported the construction of the lookout tower on the Patersberg around six kilometers northwest of Kulmbach on the Frankenweg long-distance hiking trail .
Weltrich has been an honorary citizen of the city of Kulmbach since 1843 .
