Johann Peter Blank

Johann Peter Blank (* 19th December 1925 in Berlin , † 13. January 2014 in Minden ) was a German railroad - engineer .

Life

Johann Peter Blank was born on December 19, 1925 in Berlin as one of four children. His father was Martin Blank . At the age of 17 - after having passed the emergency Abitur - he volunteered for the Navy. He was later transferred to the infantry to take part in the Battle of Berlin . After the end of the war, he began an internship in underground mining in Oberhausen and made up his final high school diploma. He then studied mechanical engineering in Karlsruhe and Hanover . There he joined the Corps Saxonia Karlsruhe and the Corps Saxonia Hanover . In 1951 in Karlsruhe he fought a length on the first day of the drum after the Second World War. After graduating, he worked for the Federal Railways in Hanover, Braunschweig, Hameln, Opladen, Wuppertal, Wiesbaden, Lübeck and Karlsruhe. He had been working in Minden since 1971, was appointed President of the Federal Railway Central Office in Minden in 1976 and held the office until his retirement in 1990. He was significantly involved in the research and development of the Intercity-Express . At the end of his professional career he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his outstanding achievements . The development of the ICE passenger car, the new Intercity car, 2nd class, the city train for travel and freight cars for high-speed traffic were significantly influenced by him. In addition, from 1980 to 1988 he was the only German President of the Research and Testing Office (ORE) of the International Union of Railways and has maintained contacts with Eastern European railways for a long time.
