Johann Philipp Burggrav , also Johann Philipp Burggrave the Elder , (born February 19, 1673 in Darmstadt , † March 1746 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German doctor .

Life

Burggrav was the son of the pharmacist Philipp Peter Burggrav († 1678). He studied medicine in particular at the universities of Giessen , Jena and Leiden . In Leiden, he was with the dissertation De malo sinensi aureo to Dr. med. PhD . He then became a doctor in his hometown. On December 31, 1703, Landgrave Ernst Ludwig of Hesse-Darmstadt appointed him ordinary city ​​physician .

Burggrav turned to Frankfurt am Main in 1706. There he was accepted as a general practitioner on September 8, 1706 . At the same time he was given the office of Electoral Mainz Land Medicus. Not only was he educated in medicine, but he also had knowledge of the Hebrew language, which enabled him to explain the scriptures . He died in Frankfurt am Main and was buried there on March 19, 1746.

Johann Philipp Burggrave , the Frankfurt doctor and family doctor of the Goethe family, was his son.
