Johann Philipp Fuchs from Dornheim

Johann Philipp Fuchs von Dornheim (born January 16, 1646 ; † June 20, 1727 in Würzburg ) was canon in Bamberg and provost in the diocese of Würzburg .

Life

Origin and family

As the son of Julius Gottfried Fuchs von Dornheim and Anna Barbara von Oberstein, Johann Philipp Fuchs von Dornheim came from the ancient Franconian knight family Fuchs .

Career and work

On July 9, 1655, Johann Philipp became canon in Würzburg and was matriculated at the University of Würzburg in November 1659 . Appointed cathedral capitular in 1681 , he was elected provost of Neumünster Abbey on April 14, 1687. In that year he also acquired a prebend at Bamberg Cathedral .

In 1691 he became Würzburg Cathedral Scholaster and at the same time President of the Court Chamber and the Court War Council . On December 18, 1719 he was appointed provost of the cathedral . He remained in this office until his death, with which the nobility of the Fuchs von Dornheim family died out in the male line.

He found his final resting place in the Würzburg Cathedral. His successor was Friedrich Karl von Schönborn .

Others

Johann Philipp supported the construction of the collegiate church with a donation of one thousand thalers. The monastery was able to make many purchases from his estate, including a new organ.
