Johann Rudolf Vogel

Johann Rudolf Vogel (born October 27, 1810 in Wangen an der Aare ; † November 25, 1891 there ) was a Swiss politician and farmer . From 1848 to 1869 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

The son of a ship master and trader ran a farm in Wangen an der Aare. He was also the owner of a small brush factory . Vogel represented radical liberal views and was one of the most influential politicians of this direction in Oberaargau . From 1838 to 1840 he served as mayor . This was followed by an election to the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern , of which he was a member until 1846. For the next four years he worked as a salt factor, ie he was entrusted by the canton with the profitable sale of salt .

Vogel, who had the rank of major in the military , ran for the first National Council elections in October 1848 and was elected in the constituency of Oberaargau . He was re-elected six times in a row, and in 1869 he resigned as National Councilor. From 1862 to 1878 he sat a second time on the Grand Council. Vogel was considered a specialist in questions of agriculture and forestry.
