Johann Samuel Hall
Johann Samuel Halle (born December 11, 1727 in Bartenstein , † January 9, 1810 in Berlin ) was a Prussian historian and toxicologist . He was also the author of various science books and engraver .
Life
Halle studied theology , philosophy and mathematics in Königsberg . In 1753, after completing his degree, he came to Berlin as an educator . There he was appointed to the Royal Prussian Cadet Corps in 1760 to take over the newly established professorship for history. He was the author of various scientific, craft / technological and historical (teaching) books.
In his six-volume work Workshops for Today's Arts or the New Art History , Halle describes the crafts of his time in great detail.
His work Magic or the Magic Powers of Nature, as Applied to Benefit and Amusement, describes many different experiments in the field of natural sciences, which could have had a magical effect with sometimes amazing results. In addition, in the following years he wrote the multi-volume Continued Magic or the magical powers of nature in which he was the first to describe an arc lamp.
He also wrote works such as the natural history of animals in a systematic order: in addition to the history of man , a small encyclopedia or textbook of all elementary knowledge or the state history of the world . Halle also worked as a translator.
His daughter Charlotte Wilhelmine married the scientist and doctor Johann Georg Krünitz in 1786 .
