Johann Samuel Magnus (born September 4, 1678 in Albrechtsdorf near Sorau , † November 10, 1707 in Sorau ) was a German Protestant spiritual poet and historian.

Life

The pastor's son Johann Magnus studied at the University of Greifswald and the University of Wittenberg and died as a candidate for the Ministry of Spirituality.

During his short life, in addition to a little Hebrew grammar, he published some edification writings. In his work “Refreshment on the cage bed” , among a number of songs he wrote, there is also the song recorded in several hymn books: “I have chosen Jesus, Jesus is my light and shine” .

From his estate, a historical description of the city of Sorau was published in 1710, which is of value for the history and especially the scholarly history of Lusatia.
