Live and act

Johann Baptist Schmitt was born on December 8, 1845 in the Bavarian district court town of Volkach. He probably grew up in the house on Hauptstrasse 7, where his father Joseph Schmitt may have worked as a baker . Schmitt later learned to be a confectioner in order to succeed his father. He merged the house with a neighboring property and ran a bakery with a wine press and a gingerbread shop for the production of so-called Masonic gingerbread .

On January 1, 1900, Johann Schmitt was elected mayor of his hometown. He held this office until December 31, 1905. In 1901, Schmitt also succeeded the late Ignaz Aumüller as a member of the constituency of Haßfurt / Ufr in the Bavarian state parliament. He continued the committee work of his predecessor and dealt in particular with a reform of the basic value levy . In 1904 he left the state parliament. Johann Schmitt died in Volkach on October 1, 1906.
