Johann Ulrich Schiess (politician, 1711)

Johann Ulrich Schiess (born February 27, 1711 in Herisau ; † March 11, 1775 in Herisau; legal resident in Herisau) was a Swiss textile entrepreneur, long-time member of the Small Council , mayor and delegate from the Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Johann Ulrich Schiess was a son of Johann Ulrich Schiess, community Captain and host of the inn crown, and the Sibilla Loser. In 1730 he married Anna Sturzenegger, daughter of Bartholome Sturzenegger. He entered into a second marriage in 1735 with Katharina Barbara Tanner, daughter of Bartholome Tanner, Landesseckelmeister . He rode in the Gasthaus Krone. Later he was a successful textile merchant and owner of Alp Kleinwald . In 1739 he was councilor in Herisau. From 1747 to 1749 he served as the Ausserrhoder regional ensign and from 1749 to 1756 as the governor. From 1756 to 1769 he was the delegate of the Diet eleven times. As Landammann from 1756 to 1772, Schiess contributed much to calming the situation after the Ausserrhoder land trade from 1732 to 1734.
