Johann V. Jordans

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann V. Jordans (*?; † 1666 in Zornheim ) was a clergyman and since 1621 the last abbot of the Limburg monastery .

First term of office

The Limburg Monastery was secularized by the Electoral Palatinate in 1574 after the death of Abbot Johann IV von Bingenheim prevented the election of a new abbot. When Austrian and Spanish troops occupied the Electoral Palatinate at the beginning of the Thirty Years' War , Johann Jordans from Deutz was appointed abbot in 1621 and placed in his office under military protection. When the Protestants gained the upper hand shortly afterwards , he had to flee.

Second term of office

It was not until 1645 that he was able to resume his office and was introduced to his office by the vicar general of the Speyer diocese . This was also confirmed by the papal nuncio , Fabio Chigi . In 1648 he obtained confirmation of his position from Archduke Leopold Wilhelm of Austria , governor in the Spanish Netherlands . But none of this was of any use: In the Peace of Westphalia , the Limburg monastery was assigned to the Electoral Palatinate due to the normal year determination . The Electoral Palatinate still needed until 1650 to relieve him of his office by military force. Johann V. Jordans emigrated again.

End of life

In 1661 he was confirmed in his office by the papal nuncio, Marco Gallio , Bishop of Rimini , but this did not change the power and legal situation. Johann V. Jordans spent the last years of his life as a pastor in Zornheim , where he died in 1666.
