Johann Vierdanck (also Virdanck , Virdank , Vyrdanck , Feyertagk or Feyerdank ) (baptized on February 5, 1605 in Jessen (Elster) ; buried on April 1, 1646 in Stralsund ) was a German composer , instrumentalist (violin, zinc ) and organist .

Life

Johann (es) Vierdanck was baptized on February 5, 1605 in Jessen as the son of the organ maker and carpenter Hans Vierdanck (from Barkha in düringen ); his mother Martha was the daughter of the Wittenberg bookbinder Barnutius . From December 17, 1625 (first entry in Dresden with the full name of Hans Virdank ) to June 24, 1629 (application for resignation) he was a great capell boy or instrumentist at the Dresden court orchestra, where he was musically supervised and accommodated by his teacher Wilhelm Günther (among others an excellent violinist and cornettist). The Saxon Kapellmeister Heinrich Schütz's request to have Vierdanck trained by the Viennese Cornett virtuoso Giovanni Sansoni (1593–1648) was rejected several times by the Saxon Elector for financial reasons. Johann Vierdanck - disappointed by this decision - then sent the Saxon Elector a request for resignation on June 24, 1629.

From September 1631 (appointment) to Johannis 1632 (resignation) he was an instrumentist (strings) at the Güstrower Hofkapelle. From 1632 he took study trips to Lübeck, Hamburg and Copenhagen, acquaintance / friendship with Nicolaus Bleyer (composition lessons?), Johann Schop and Georg Friedrich Hoyoul.

Vierdanck was present in Stralsund on April 9, 1635 (registered as a godfather in a church register, but without a job title). At the wedding of Princess Sophie Elisabeth in Güstrow with  August the Younger , Duke of Braunschweig-Lüneburg, Prince of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel (July 12, 1635) he is mentioned as a musician from Stralsund .

From 1635 to 1646 he was organist at the Marienkirche in Stralsund . There he received a salary of “225 mk (quarter liter)” and “30 mk wood money” , which roughly corresponded to that of a preacher and, for example, far exceeded a teacher's salary. Vierdanck published several music collections himself, and he is also mentioned several times in the baptismal register of the Marienkirche as a godfather and recipient of considerable godparent gifts. Both speak for a certain prosperity and recognition. He was married to Anna, geb. Lambrecht. 1642 he expresses thoughts to leave Stralsund (Application in Luebeck?): "... I also carried out Sonderen causes Bedencken me what I consecriret of the Baltic Seestrande my previous work to avert." . Vierdanck stayed in Stralsund until his death three years later and was buried with bells on April 1, 1646 in the Marienkirche Stralsund .
