Johann Zelebor

Johann Zelebor (born December 5, 1819 in Eggenburg , Lower Austria , † February 19, 1869 in Vienna ) was an Austrian naturalist, illustrator and zoologist.

Zelebor was a trained carpenter . In 1850 he got a job as a taxidermist at the Wiener Naturalien-Cabinet. Under Georg Ritter von Frauenfeld he took part in the research trip of the Austrian frigate Novara ( Novara expedition ) around the world from 1857 to 1859 , where he distinguished himself as a collector and taxidermist and in 1858 was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit with a crown. After his return in 1861 he was appointed curator of the mammal department of the Zoological Court Cabinet.
