Johann von Malentein zu Prießenegg († April 13, 1550 ) was called Johann III. Bishop of Seckau .
Johann von Malentein came from a Carinthian noble family whose ancestral seat was the Malentein Castle in the Carinthian valley of the Malta . The Prießenegg Castle near Hermagor had also been in the family since 1500 . Johann studied in Vienna from 1513 and traveled to Paris the following year to study. In 1527 he became a councilor to Duke Ernst of Bavaria and soon afterwards canon in Salzburg , where he received a canonical in 1528 through imperial sponsorship . He was a 1538 concubinage rumored.
On June 19, 1546 he was appointed bishop of Seckau by Duke Ernst, who was also the administrator of Salzburg. During his tenure in office he did not succeed in reducing the high debt burden caused by the defense against the Turks .
In 1544 the bishop received a sharp reprimand for lack of administration. He died on April 13, 1550 and was buried in Spittal an der Drau .
