Johann von Medinger

Johann von Medinger (born March 21, 1846 in Vienna , † December 18, 1908 in Vienna) was an Austrian industrialist and owner of the Nussdorf beer brewery .

biography

His father was Johann Medinger, so his son was also Johann Medinger jun. called. After completing his commercial training, he worked in the drugstore and in his father's paint factory from 1864 . In 1878 he and Baron Karl Adolf Bachofen von Echt became part owners of the Nussdorf brewery von Bachofen & Medinger . Under their leadership, the brewery became one of the leading in Austria. In 1908 he became president of the company that was converted into a public limited company.

In 1903 he became a co-owner of the Gablonzer brewery Medinger & Co., which merged with the neighboring Reichenberg - Maffersdorfer brewery in 1908 and was converted into an AG under his presidency. Medinger was involved in the founding of the Austrian experimental station for breweries and maltings and was its president from 1887 to 1908. He also made great contributions in the field of workers' welfare and industrial hygiene . He was president of the brewers' association for Vienna and the surrounding area from 1890–1899, 1903–1904 and again in 1908. He was always committed to the concerns of the domestic brewing industry. He has received several honors and awards for his services, including an honorary member of the Institute for Fermentation Industry in Berlin. Together with Bachofen von Echt, a partner in the Nussdorf brewery, he was appointed supplier to the imperial and royal court . In 1903 he was raised to the nobility by the emperor .

Medinger died in 1908 and was buried in the family vault at the parish cemetery in Nussdorf .

His son Wilhelm von Medinger (1878-1934) became a politician.
