Johann von Siegl

Johann von Siegl (born May 8, 1807 in Kock , † November 28, 1887 in Vienna ) was an Austrian military medic .

Life

Johann Siegl studied medicine and received his doctorate in 1832. In the same year he joined the army as a senior physician and worked as an assistant for theoretical surgery at the St. Joseph Academy in Vienna . In 1851 Siegl was promoted to medical officer and subsequently held senior positions in the hospitals in Verona and Vienna. In 1855 he became a member of the military medical committee and in 1867 came to the Reich Ministry of War , where he was involved in reforming field medical equipment. In 1869 he became chief medical officer at the General Command in Vienna. Promoted to General Staff Physician in 1875 , he retired a year later.

In 1867 Siegl was knighted for his services to the military medical service and his commitment in the war year 1866 .

Karl von Siegl and Max von Siegl were his sons.
