Karl von Siegl (born June 6, 1842 in Landshut , Galicia , † April 12, 1900 in Vienna ) was an Austrian etcher , engraver and railway technician .

Life

Karl Ritter von Siegl was the son of the military doctor Johann Siegl (1807-1887), who was knighted in 1867. After graduating from high school, he studied at the Schottengymnasium , from 1858 to 1862 at the Polytechnic Institute in Vienna and from 1863 to 1881 worked in railway construction on the Brennerbahn , the Austrian Northwest Railway and the St. Gotthard Railway .

From 1877 to 1879 Siegl studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna among others with Christian Griepenkerl copperplate engraving and etching, in 1879 he took private lessons and from 188 to 1886 he studied at the Vienna Art Academy with William Unger . Siegl's main work are around 270 drawings for the so-called Crown Prince's work , The Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in Words and Pictures (24 volumes, 1885–1902). From 1883 Siegl was a member of the cooperative of visual artists Vienna ( Künstlerhaus Wien ).
