Johanna Sophie von Anhalt
Johanna Sophie von Anhalt (born July 9, 1731 in Kleckewitz , † July 15, 1786 in Dessau ) was a Countess of Anhalt from the house of the Ascanians and Abbess of Mosigkau .
Life
Johanna Sophie was a daughter of the Hereditary Prince Wilhelm Gustav von Anhalt-Dessau (1699–1737) from his morganatic marriage with Johanne Sophie Herre (1706–1795). Her parents' marriage was only confessed to her grandfather, Prince Leopold I , on her father's deathbed . The children recommended in this marriage lived at Gut Kleckewitz near Raguhn at that time and the princely grandfather only brought the eldest son Wilhelm to the Dessau court. In 1749, the younger brother of her father, Prince Leopold II , had the widow and her children elevated to the rank of Countess of Anhalt and gave them access to the court.
After Prince Leopold II's death, her aunt Princess Anna Wilhelmine von Anhalt-Dessau took care of the upbringing of the children with whom Johanna Sophie developed a very close bond. Anna Wilhelmine appointed Johanna Sophie, who had a high level of charitable commitment, in her will in 1779 as abbess of the noble fräuleinstift Mosigkau. Johanna Sophie took up this position in 1780.
Johanna Sophie, who suffered from poor health, died six years later at the age of 55 and was the first woman to be buried in a central location at the Mosigkau Abbey Cemetery.
