John Nepomuk Chapel (Prachatice, Solní)

The St. John Nepomuk Chapel ( Czech Kaple svatého Jana Nepomuckého) in Prachatice ( German Prachatitz ), a town in the Jihočeský kraj region (South Bohemia) in the Czech Republic , is a listed chapel on the Solní (Salt Road) . The baroque building dates from the second half of the 18th century.

The chapel of St. John Nepomuk stands on the Solní in front of the former gate system of the Passau Gate (Horní brána, also Upper Gate ). The help of the saint, who was drowned in Prague in 1393, was asked for with water and travel hazards. Another Johannes Nepomuk chapel stands at the Pisek Gate of the city (Dolní brána, also Lower Gate ).

A few meters from the chapel there is a larger one dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua . He is also considered the patron saint of horses and donkeys. The salt trade route of the Goldene Steig (Zlatá stezka) led across the Solní from Passau to the town's market square.

The building was placed under protection on May 3, 1958 as a cultural monument and on October 1, 1981, it was included in the area of ​​the municipal monument reserve in downtown Prachatic.
