Johannes Birckholtz

Johannes Birckholtz (born October 24, 1903 in Hamburg ; † December 5, 1994 ) was a German lawyer and state secretary .

Life

Birckholtz studied law at the University of Hamburg from 1923 to 1926 . After completing his studies, he was an administrative officer at the Hamburg welfare authority. Because of his membership in the SPD , he was imprisoned in 1933. He then worked as a lawyer until he did military service in the Wehrmacht (from 1941) . After the Second World War he was reassigned to the civil service and in 1961 appointed to the State Council in the Department of the Interior in Hamburg. In 1969, Federal Defense Minister Helmut Schmidt , a former Senator of the Hamburg Police Department , brought him to the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn as State Secretary . From 1972 to 1982 he was a judge at the Hamburg Constitutional Court . In addition, he was a member of the Broadcasting Council of Deutschlandfunk from 1970 to 1975 . Birckholtz was married.
