Johannes Bisterfeld

Johannes Bisterfeld (* around 1568 in Lüneburg ; † late 1618 in Dordrecht ( South Holland )) was a German Reformed theologian and philosopher . He was a professor at the high school in Herborn and rector of this university.

Life

From 1586 Johannes Bisterfeld studied Reformed theology and philosophy at the High School in Herborn . In the years 1589–1591 he was a teacher at the pedagogy in Siegen . In 1591 he was appointed professor of eloquence and philosophy at the Herborn High School. When the High School Herborn was relocated to Siegen in 1597, he was its rector and held this office until 1599.

In Siegen, the already widowed professor married Gertrud Wiederstein, nee. Schickhart. She was the widow of Rector Arnold Wiederstein and a daughter of Henrich Schickhrtt . She already had two sons. Their marriage resulted in two sons and a daughter. From that time on, Bisterfeld worked as a pastor and inspector in Siegen. In 1618 he was sent to the Dordrecht National Synod by Count Johann VII. As a member of the Wetterau Counts' Association . During this synod he died unexpectedly at the age of 49.
