John's Bonus
Johannes Bonus (* 1168 in Mantua ; † October 23, 1249 ibid) was an Italian lay brother .
Life
Johannes Bonus was born in Mantua in 1168. At first he was a traveling juggler , but when he became seriously ill at the age of 40, he repented . From then on he lived strictly religious as a hermit in Cesena . From around 1217 he got friends who admired him very much. It is believed that nine out of ten hermit convents were founded during Bonus' lifetime. The companions around Bonus joined together to form the Johannboniten or Jamboniten ; In 1243 Innocent IV ordered them to follow the rules of the Augustinian monastery . Together with other Italian hermit associations, Alexander IV arranged in his papal bull Licet ecclesiae catholicae of August 13, 1256, the Johannbonites in the Augustinian order . Bonus himself died on October 23, 1249 in his hometown, and in 1483 Sixtus IV beatified him .
