The printer Johannes Daubmann came from Torgau. On 23 December 1545 he acquired in Nuremberg , the civil rights in the Judengasse. There he ran a printing company ; initially together with Wolf Fugger , from 1551 alone. He ran a bookshop at the town hall. The swan poet Michael Lindner worked with him as a proofreader .

He was repeatedly reprimanded by the city council for violating censorship. After the publication of a pamphlet by Magister Michael Röting against Andreas Melanchton - without a council permit - he was locked in the tower in 1551 on an imperial order. In 1553 he came back to the tower because of the sale of blacksmiths; he was "sentenced to eight days in the tower".

Through the mediation of Councilor H. Schürstab, Duke Albrecht of Prussia called him to Königsberg / Prussia in 1554 , where he reopened the printing works that he brought from Nuremberg. He received an annual salary of 100 guilders plus free accommodation.

In 1558 he was appointed as an academic printer by the Königsberg University . He was given an annual allowance of 30 bushels of grain. For this he had to print the intimations of the rector and the books and disputations of the professors free of charge.

Around 1564 his printing works began to slowly decline. He had to take out a loan of 400 guilders from the ducal pension chamber . Despite his renewed privilege, he had to fight against Winkeldrucker, although they hardly won against his well-equipped office . He was married to Anna Weiß from Berlin .

He died at the end of 1573, the printing works was managed for his heirs by Georg Francke under the company Johann Daubmanns Erben , later managed by Bonifacius Daubmann . He sold his share to Georg Osterberger , who took it over completely.
