Johannes Fädminger

Johannes Fädminger , also Hans Murer (* around 1520 in Thun , † October 15, 1586 in Bern ) was a Swiss Protestant clergyman.

Life

Johannes Fädminger was pastor of Rüderswyl at an unknown point in time , then he became an assistant in Brugg in 1547 , was then pastor in Lauperswil from 1547 to 1556 , before becoming an assistant at the Bern Minster and in 1566, its pastor and dean there in 1575 .

On October 20, 1571, he accompanied Hans Haslibacher , the last person to be baptized , who was executed in the canton of Bern for his beliefs and who steadfastly refused to renounce Anabaptism. He was also with the doctors and Antitrinitarier friends John Hasler (1548-1593), who in his order, a copy of Johann Sylvan Scripture Christian truth Bekänntniß of uhralten faith of the true God and of Messiah Jesus the true Christ, against the Drey -Personal idol and two-natured idols of the antichrist, compiled with diligence outside of God's word ; in 1570 this led to a sharp interrogation of Fädminger by the council of Bern. The matter was rated as insignificant, but led to a communication to the reformer Heinrich Bullinger , in which the tolerant Fädminger was described as unreliable in the right faith. The election of Fädminger as dean is seen as a sign that the Bern Council wanted to give more room to tolerance.

At the extraordinary synod, which was convened in Bern in 1581 and which was not ordered by the clergy, but by the councilor and mayor Beat Ludwig von Mülinen , Fädminger sharply criticized the authorities after they had sharply reprimanded the pastors. From 1581 to 1582 he also advocated vehemently that wafers should continue to be used at the Lord's Supper and not, as suggested at the synod by Pastor Abraham Musculus (1534–1591), that bread should be broken; the dispute was settled in 1582 by a directive from the council to end the dispute.

His extensive library, which mainly came from the estate of his father-in-law Leonhard Hospinian and comprised 243 volumes, including numerous anthologies, so that the number of titles was 435, he bequeathed to the High School (today: University of Bern ).

His scholarship fund of 5,000 pounds donated by him for the support of twelve theology students, two of whom should be from Thun, still exists today and in 2009 had assets of over 24,000 francs .

Johannes Fädminger was first married to Barbara, daughter of Leonhard Hospinian (1505–1564). They had four children together.

He had a daughter with his second wife, whom he married in 1563, Elsbeth, daughter of Lux Löwensprung, Rat in Bern; with his third wife, Sara, daughter of Valentin Curio (1500-1532) he was married since 1565.
