Johannes Gorantla

Johannes Gorantla (born April 10, 1952 in Managalapalli , † January 20, 2007 in Karnulu ) was Bishop of Kurnool (Karnulu) in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh .

Life

Johannes Gorantla was ordained a priest on March 19, 1977 . In 1993 he was appointed bishop of the Kurnool diocese by John Paul II .

He was chairman of the bishops' commission for Dalits and marginalized social groups .

Gorantla, who himself belonged to the group of Dalits , the so-called untouchables, who were below the Indian caste system , suffered a heart attack before a mass in the cathedral of Karnulu .
